Questions for a provider

02 / Your first inquiry

A message
you can begin with.

Hello, I am exploring support and would like to ask a few questions.

Are you currently taking new clients?
What are your fees, and do you accept insurance or offer reduced-fee options?

What is the next step to arrange an initial conversation?

Nothing is sent from this page. Use the provider's official contact details when you are ready.

Keep this in mind

Practical guidance.
Room for your own experience.

A quiz cannot decide this for you

We retired the previous therapy-readiness score. You can ask about support without proving that you are struggling enough. This page helps you prepare questions; it does not recommend treatment from your answers.

A primary care provider can be a starting point if you are unsure where to begin, particularly when changes in mood, sleep, or energy may have a physical cause. A licensed mental health professional can discuss treatment options with you.

Before you send

Use a provider’s official contact route. Keep an initial inquiry brief; you do not need to include your full history. Ask how to share sensitive information securely. Check their credentials, where they are authorised to practise, fees, and current availability directly.

Where to look

You can ask your health insurer for providers in your plan, ask a primary care provider for a referral, or explore NIMH’s ways to find help. Our community directory is small and includes both practitioners and advocates. Confirm each person’s role and availability; a directory listing is not a guarantee of fit.

Sources & limits

Care options and provider questions draw on NIMH’s psychotherapy overview and tips for talking with a health care provider. The message builder is an original TherapaJi template, not a referral, assessment, or provider recommendation.
